Jacques Delors oli sodanjälkeisen Euroopan yhdentymisen visionääri ja vannoutunut puolestapuhuja sekä tämän päivän Euroopan unionin arkkitehti. Hän toimi Euroopan komission puheenjohtajana kolme kautta tammikuusta 1985 vuoden 1994 loppuun. Delorsin toimikausia leimasivat tinkimätön sitoutuminen vapauteen, sosiaaliseen oikeudenmukaisuuteen ja solidaarisuuteen, jotka jäivät pysyvästi EU:n ytimeen.
Jacques Delors kuoli 98 vuoden ikäisenä 27.12.2023.

Puheenjohtaja Ursula von der Leyen ja muut korkean tason vieraat muistivat 31.1.2024 suurta eurooppalaista, joka antoi merkittävän panoksen Euroopan yhdentymiselle.
Jacques Delors oli visionääri, jonka ansiosta unionistamme tuli entistä vahvempi. Hänen työllään on ollut suuri vaikutus useamman eurooppalaisen sukupolven elämään, myös oman sukupolveni. Olemme syvästi kiitollisia hänelle.
