Jacques Delors přišel s vlastní vizí spojené Evropy. Byl horlivým zastáncem poválečné evropské integrace a architektem Evropské unie, jak ji známe dnes. Od ledna roku 1985 do konce roku 1994 zastával funkci předsedy Evropské komise, tedy tři po sobě jdoucí funkční období. Komisi vedl v době, která se vyznačovala silným odhodláním prosazovat svobodu, sociální spravedlnost a solidaritu – tedy hodnoty, které jsou nyní s Unií pevně spjaty.
Jacques Delors zemřel 27. prosince 2023 ve věku 98 let.

Předsedkyně Komise Ursula von der Leyenová a další hosté si 31. ledna 2024 připomenuli zásluhy tohoto jedinečného Evropana, který se podílel na utváření Evropy a významně přispěl k rozvoji evropského projektu.
Jacques Delors byl vizionář, který se zasloužil o silnější postavení Evropy. Jeho práce měla zásadní dopad na životy několika generací Evropanů, včetně mé vlastní. Za to jsme mu hluboce vděčni.

Každoročně se v rámci tohoto programu zapojí do studia, odborné přípravy, výuky a dobrovolnické činnosti více než 650 000 studentů, učňů, žáků, dobrovolníků a učitelů.
