Objective
As part of the EU’s Rule of Law toolbox and a key contribution to the European Semester, the EU Justice Scoreboard presents an annual overview of indicators on the efficiency, quality and independence of justice systems. Its purpose is to assist the Member States improve the effectiveness of their national justice systems by providing objective, reliable and comparable data.
Effective justice systems are essential for implementing EU law and for upholding the rule of law and the values upon which the EU is founded. They ensure that individuals and businesses can fully enjoy their rights, strengthen mutual trust, and help to build a citizen-, business- and investment-friendly environment.
The EU Justice Scoreboard is one of the sources of information for the annual Rule of Law Report. Its findings also inform the country-specific assessments within the European Semester - the EU’s annual cycle of economic policy coordination - within the Recovery and Resilience Facility and in the context of the application of the Rule of Law Conditionality Regulation.
