What has the Global Gateway contributed to?
Since 2021, Team Europe has mobilised over €306 billion for high-quality, sustainable projects that
A first milestone of the Global Gateway was the Africa-Europe Investment Package, with approximately €150 billion of investment dedicated to strengthening partnerships with Africa. We are also implementing Global Gateway in Asia and the Pacific and in Latin America and the Caribbean.
To date, more than 250 key projects have been launched worldwide.
Principles
The European model of trusted connectivity in partner countries is long-term and in line with EU’s interests and values: rule of law, human rights and international norms and standards. It is about
- smart, clean and secure investments in quality infrastructure
- connecting goods, people and services around the world in a sustainable way
Initiatives by region/country
Global Gateway is implemented through projects in Latin America and the Caribbean; the Middle East, Asia and the Pacific; and Sub-Saharan Africa.
Support mobilised by Team Europe
The Global Gateway is delivered through a Team Europe approach, which brings together the EU and EU Member States with their financial and development institutions. It also seeks to mobilise the private sector to leverage investments for a transformational impact.
The Global Gateway draws on the new financial tools in the EU multi-annual financial framework 2021-2027, in particular the Neighbourhood, Development and International Cooperation Instrument (NDICI)-Global Europe, the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA) III, the digital and international part of the Connecting Europe Facility, but also Interreg, InvestEU and Horizon Europe, the EU research and innovation programme.
