Cooperation with non-EU countries

Bringing together partners from different countries to enhance expertise and disseminate best practices in their respective fields.

In addition to supporting interpretation studies within the EU and in candidate countries, the Directorate-General for Interpretation (DG SCIC) also cooperates with non-EU countries. International programmes support capacity building in interpretation and increase cooperation and mutual understanding.

Macao

DG SCIC has a training programme with Macao Special Administrative Region since 2006, which helps to increase the number of qualified interpreters in the bilingual public administration (Portuguese - Cantonese/Mandarin).

DG SCIC cooperates with the Macao Polytechnic University and provides pedagogical assistance to their interpretation Master’s programme as well as training for trainers’ courses.

International organisations

DG SCIC is an active participant in the International Annual Meeting on Language Arrangements, Documentation and Publications (IAMLADP), which was set up by the United Nations and allows the heads of language and conference services of international organisations to meet, identify and discuss common issues, exchange experiences and come up with best practices.
