Fleeing Ukraine: support for education

The Commission is

• financing support for schools, vocational education and training, as well as for early childhood education and care through EU Cohesion Funds, and Erasmus+ and the European Solidarity Corps
• coordinating an EU Education Solidarity Group for Ukraine to identify the needs of Ukrainian children and to support Member States who host them, including peer learning and policy guidance
• providing access to learning material in Ukrainian and offering online resources and courses for teachers through the School Education Gateway
• supporting teachers among the refugees through access to EU programmes and exchanges in the eTwinning community

The European Training Foundation has set up a resource hub with information on how people who have fled Ukraine can continue or access education and training in EU countries, have their qualifications understood and recognised for work or study purposes, and find job opportunities.

European Research Area for Ukraine

The ‘European Research Area for Ukraine' portal is a one-stop-shop for information and support services to Ukraine-based researchers and researchers fleeing Ukraine. The portal brings together initiatives at the EU level, per country and from non-governmental groups. It aims to help affected researchers find housing and job opportunities, facilitate the recognition of their diplomas, and offer other services.

The portal is launched on the existing EURAXESS network, which supports researchers by connecting more than 600 centres and 43 national portals across the EU Member States and countries associated to Horizon Europe. 

Other EU initiatives include access to Science4Refugees, an existing EURAXESS initiative that provides internships, part-time and full-time jobs to refugees, as well as access to a European Research Community, and MSCA – Researchers at risk.
