Communication

The Directorate-General for Communication is the Commission department responsible for explaining EU policies to outside audiences. It keeps the Commission abreast of political developments and of trends in public opinion and the media. 

Responsibilities

The Directorate-General for Communication is responsible for defining and monitoring the Commission’s corporate image to ensure it aligns with its values and objectives. It actively communicates with the media and the public regarding political priorities, as well as other topics of political importance or public interest. To support other departments within the Commission, it provides corporate communication tools and expertise

Additionally, the Directorate-General runs pan-European campaigns highlighting EU priorities. It coordinates various projects in collaboration with other EU institutions and national governments. Furthermore, the Directorate-General informs the Commission about public opinion and reports on political developments across the EU. It also helps evaluate the Commission’s communication activities to improve future efforts. Finally, through its Spokesperson's Service it facilitates clear and effective communication with the media.
