Water expertise growth and export programme / New materials for passive water treatment in mines and recovery of valuable substances (KaiPa)

Water expertise growth and export programme

With €361 725, the Recovery and Resilience Facility supports the project which will investigate through pilot experiments replicable and scalable passive water treatment methods and materials (geopolymers and chitosan) for the treatment of mine leachate and the recovery of valuable substances. In addition, laboratory-scale experiments will be conducted to investigate the development of new composite adsorbents and the use of these adsorbents in mines. Stabilisation of mine reject water fractions (e.g. from reverse osmosis plants) to geopolymers, which can provide new product opportunities for the mining water industry in the future.

The project will be completed by July 2024.
