Sport and Social Inclusion (Mission 5, Component 3, Investment 7)

Italy’s Recovery and Resilience Plan provides for the regeneration of urban areas focusing on sport facilities, in order to promote social inclusion and integration, especially in the most deprived areas of Italy.

The funded projects will support:

  1. construction and regeneration of sports facilities, located in disadvantaged areas of the country including metropolitan suburbs;
  2. the distribution of sports equipment for the disadvantaged areas;
  3. the completion and adaptation of existing sports facilities such as:(for examples: functional recovery, restructuring, extraordinary maintenance, removal of architectural barriers, and energy efficiency).

The investment is financed by Italy’s Recovery and Resilience plan by EUR 350 million.

As part of this investment, the project aims to enhance the "Gianni Falchi" sports center located in “Piazzale Atleti azzurri d'Italia” (Savena district) and is part of the broader requalification plan "Cittadella dello Sport": a package of projects financed by the "Sport and social inclusion" RRP investment for a total of over EUR 10 million, which was included in 2022 in the Municipality's Three-Year Public Works Plan.

Specifically, the baseball, softball and football pitches of the “Cittadella dello Sport” will be restored and a new facility for outdoor padel will be constructed.
The project aims to improve sports facilities and city parks, promoting sustainability and innovation, in order to encourage socialization and inclusion, founding values of sport.

The amount of RRF financing for the requalification and regeneration of the “Gianni Falchi” sport citadel amounts to EUR 1 million.

Construction works are expected to be completed by June 2024, with testing starting in December 2024.
