Promotion of electric heavy-duty vehicle transport in Finland: Volvo Finland Ab and Plugit Finland Oy

The measure promotes the heavy-duty transport sector's capacity to use electricity as a means of propulsion.

The development of an electric heavy-duty transport ecosystem will thus accelerate the achievement of emission reductions in heavy-duty transport.

The measure is intended to support research, development and innovation projects in the heavy-duty electric transport service chain, as well as the promotion of business networks.

The development of a service chain covering all support functions is a prerequisite for the large-scale electrification of heavy goods vehicles. Service chain solutions can lead to business-driving innovations.

This will improve cooperation and networking within the industry.

In February 2023 Volvo FInland Ab and Plugit Finland Oy were granted EUR 2.2 million for a project developing ways to increase the supply of electric trucks on the market, an energy storage charging station and charging service products.

In November 2023 Plugit Finland Oy opened Finland's first public high-capacity charging station for electric heavy transport in Viinikka, Tampere.
