Cloud enabled for Local PAs

Cloud enablement for local PA (Mission 1 – Component 1 - Investment 1.2)

The objective of this investment is to migrate the datasets and applications of a substantial part of the local public administration to a secure cloud infrastructure, allowing each administration the freedom to choose within a set of certified public cloud environments.

The measure also envisages a “migration as a service” support package to administrations which shall encompass: (i) the initial assessment, (ii) the procedural/administrative support needed to launch the effort, (iii) the negotiation of the necessary external support and (iv) the overall project management over the course of execution. A team supervised by the Ministry for Technological Innovation and Digital Transition (MITD) is expected to identify and certify a broad list of qualified providers and to negotiate a set of standard support packages tailored to the size of the administration and the services involved in the migration.

The investment is financed by Italy’s Recovery and Resilience plan by EUR 1000.0 million.

This project is part of this investment. The project aims to enable the cloud of local public administrations, as a fundamental element of Mission 1 of the PNRR, focused on the digitalization of the PA, and the so-called ""Italy Cloud Strategy""by the Department of Digital Transformation and the National Cybersecurity Agency.
The adoption of cloud infrastructure has many advantages. It allows to improve the operational efficiency of ICT systems, to achieve significant cost reductions, to make it easier and cheaper to update software, improving security and data protection and speeding up the delivery of services to citizens and businesses. The goal is to qualify cloud services and infrastructures according to specific security and reliability parameters suitable for the needs of the PA.
