Classic and smart grid development for transmission system operator and distribution system operators

The project aims at implementing substation, high voltage, medium voltage and low voltage network upgrades and digital investments in the distribution area of MVM Démász Áramhálózati Kft., with the objective of facilitating the integration of weather-dependent renewable energy sources in the distribution network. As a result of the complex development, the total amount of excess electricity generating capacity potentially connectable to the distribution grid from weather-dependent renewable energy sources is 456 MW.

The detailed technical content of the development has been defined as a result of network calculations carried out by the Company to identify network elements and bottlenecks that hinder the integration of weather-dependent renewable energy sources into the distribution network.

As of December 2021, the total solar capacity connected to the grid in the MVM Demas Grid Ltd. supply area was 574 MW. Long-term projections indicate that by 2030, the demand for solar power connections will exceed 2,200 MW, which can only be achieved through a significant conventional and digitalisation upgrade of the existing grid.

As a result of these developments, the volume of new solar generation capacity that can be added to the MVM Demász Áramhálózati Kft. network will increase by at least 782 MW by spring 2026. The project receives EUR 108 695 287 funding.
