Nuclear Decommissioning (Lithuania)

About the programme

The Ignalina Nuclear Decommissioning (Lithuania) programme will ensure the safe removal of two older soviet-design nuclear reactors, thereby protecting the environment and human health.

The programme provides EU funds for decommissioning and waste management, to support knowledge sharing and to deliver a safer Union.

It will assist Lithuania in implementing the decommissioning of the Ignalina nuclear power plant (two Chernobyl type reactors), with specific emphasis on managing the radiological safety challenges.
