Complicated and incomprehensible texts drafted in an impersonal and passive style can deter the public and lead to a delay in handling citizens’ requests, which can increase costs. Clear writing can be the solution to this. It helps draft more comprehensible and approachable texts that leave less room for doubt, thereby saving time and money. We have invited four expert writers from Germany and Austria to share their experience with clear writing for public authorities and answer questions from our participants. The organisers are: DGT, the Representation of the European Commission in Germany and in Austria.
