Register of expert groups

Although the Commission has considerable in-house expertise, it needs specialist advice from outside experts as a basis for sound policy-making. This may be provided, inter alia, by groups of experts.

Advice from outside experts

The Commission has set up a register of Commission expert groups and other similar entities which provide it with advice and expertise in relation to:

• The preparation of legislative proposals and policy initiatives;

• The preparation of delegated acts;

• The implementation of Union legislation, programmes and policies

• Where necessary, the early preparation of implementing acts, before submission to the committee,

in accordance with regulation (EU) N° 182/2011.

For each group, the Register provides information such as the Commission department running the group, as well as the group's mission, tasks and membership. The Register also includes relevant documents which are produced and discussed by the groups, including meeting minutes, agendas and activity reports.
