Responsibilities
As Commissioner for Environment, Water Resilience and a Competitive Circular Economy, Jessika Roswall’s task is to lead the work on protecting our natural world and boosting our circular economy, focusing on incentives, investment and implementation. In doing so, she will help ensure we stay the course on the goals set out in the European Green Deal.
She is responsible for:
- jointly leading on a Circular Economy Act to create market demand for secondary materials and establish a single market for waste, and proposing an updated bioeconomy strategy
- enhancing our efforts to develop a single market for sustainable products
- taking forward our zero-pollution ambition and working on the new chemicals industry package
- focusing on enforcement and implementation of existing legislation related to environment, biodiversity and zero-pollution
- ensuring we reach our international biodiversity commitments under the Kunming Montreal Agreement, striving for an ambitious global plastic treaty and supporting the implementation of the High Seas Treaty
- prioritising the design of incentives for nature positive actions and private investment, and leading the work on nature credits
- leading the work on the European Water Resilience Strategy to strengthen water security in Europe
- working to facilitate public and private investment in technology and cross-border water infrastructure
- strengthening Europe’s global water leadership
- contributing to the new Climate Adaptation Plan and the Vision for Agriculture and Food
- further developing the New European Bauhaus

Declaration of interests
In line with the Commission's Code of Conduct for Members of the Commission, each Member of the Commission publishes a declaration of interests. The declarations of the Commissioners-designate can be found on the European Parliament’s website, where they were published before the confirmation hearings of the Commissioners.
The declarations of interests of the new Members of the Commission will be updated and published here at the beginning of 2025 in line with Article 3 of the Code of Conduct for the Members of the European Commission. Machine-readable versions of all declarations will also be made available in line with the requirements of the Code of Conduct. The declarations of interests follow the requirements set out in Article 3 and Annex 1 of the Code of Conduct for Commissioners.
