Environment

The department is responsible for EU policy on the environment. These policies ensure a high level of environmental protection and that our citizens quality of life is preserved.

Responsibilities

The Directorate-General for Environment (DG-ENV) leads the European Commission's development and delivery of environmental policy that protects, preserves and improves the environment for present and future generations while promoting sustainable development.

A key aim is to deliver on the EU’s long-term vision of a world where citizens live well and within the planet's ecological limits, in an innovative, circular economy, where biodiversity and ecosystems are protected and restored, and where pollution and environment-related health risks are reduced to a minimum.
