Pilot projects for higher education reform for a green and resilient transition

The planned activities of the 23 pilot projects of the University of Maribor aim to achieve curricular renewal and change for a green, resilient, sustainable and digitally connected university.

The pilot projects will introduce and test different ways, methods and forms of education for sustainable development, and will simultaneously contribute to the achievement of two national strategic goals for sustainable education, namely:

  • Youth and adults are empowered to work and live in a sustainable, environmentally responsible society, and to move towards a low-carbon circular economy,
  • environmental literacy is a key component of functional literacy:
  • Bionics, piloting organisational models of professional education and systems thinking for digital, green and sustainable development
  • Review and update of key learning content, knowledge, skills and expected learning outcomes for a sustainable green transition
  • Creation of a learning environment for green and digital logistics and supply chains
  • Science and mathematics content in the development of digital competences
  • Bridge between academic knowledge and green digital business practice
  • Green chemistry and chemical engineering for the transition to Society 5.0
  • Implementing a supportive environment for lifelong learning for sustainable engineering (Green2Eng)
  • A green and resilient transition for a safe and prosperous society
  • Going paperless for a green and digitally connected University of Maribor
  • Effective education for a green and digital transition
  • Communicating the climate crisis for a successful transition to a green society - ZELEN.KOM
  • Agile development of training and micro evidence
  • Green and Digital Legal Transformation
  • Developing flexible learning approaches with micro evidence for digital and green transformation of education for the transition to Society 5.0
  • FGPA 5.0 Platform
  • Green transition to climate-innovative agri-food systems
  • Flexible forms of education: Green Transition and Tourism 5.0
  • Innovative learning technologies for human and environmental health
  • Green and digital biomedical skills for interdisciplinary inter-faculty co-education of students and employees in biotech/biomedical or healthcare companies, with a view to more effective integration into the labour market
  • Healthy Lifestyles (HL) for sustainable development and lifelong learning
  • Through open access to lifelong learning
  • A single entry point for employers and innovative forms of engagement with students
  • Experiential learning with more project-based, problem-oriented and team-oriented work

The Recovery and Resilience Facility provides funding of EUR 24 million, while the total value of the investment is EUR 26 million. The projects started in July 2022 and will be finalised by December 2025.
