The Universalization of Digital Infrastructures for Cohesion Program (UNICO), serves as a framework for different calls for proposals that will facilitate the universalization of access to ultrafast broadband and the extension of 5G. Achieving broadband coverage at 100 Mbps for 100% of the population by 2025 is one of the objectives in the area of digital connectivity of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan and the Digital Spain Agenda. The first call of the UNICO-Banda Ancha Program, resolved in 2021, granted aid worth 250 million euros, the largest allocation in the history of broadband programs. The projects awarded will bring broadband to more than one million homes and businesses in 4,500 municipalities. Spain is already the third best connected country in Europe, with broadband coverage at 30 Mbps of 95% (65% in rural areas) and 87% at 100 Mbps.
