Sustainable development of public and shared tourism infrastructure and natural attractions in tourist destinations

The objective of this investment is to support sustainable tourism through the development of public and shared tourist infrastructure.

The investment consists in the refurbishment and establishment of public and shared tourism infrastructure facilities to complement and improve quality of the tourism offer.

The essential requirement is also integration of digitalization and ICT technology for the promotion and interpretation of cultural heritage.

The Ministry of Economy and Techonology published a call for project proposals in December 2022. Due to a large number of project applications of high quality, the public call was closed after the first of awards in April 2023. Furthermore, in addition the initial EUR 10 million from the Recovery and Resilience Facility, the Slovenian government ensured additional EUR 5.5 million, leveraging a total of EUR 23 million of public and private investments.

Out of 91 project applications, 58 were approved for co-financing. The structure of supported investments is as follows:

  • 27 investments in walking trails, themed trails, mountain trails, access routes to tourist attractions,
  • 18 investments in signboards, equipment for providing interactive content from the field of tourism and signs for directing, informing or promoting tourist attractions,
  • 17 investments in tourist attractions,
  • 16 investments in urban parks and other green public areas in residential areas and green public areas in residential and non-residential areas,
  • 12 investments in viewing areas, thematic viewing areas, areas for rest, recreation and play, informative and marking areas at the borders of protected or protected areas or in settlement areas within them,
  • nine investments in parking areas near access routes and tourist attractions, including toilets and other supporting tourist infrastructure on or next to parking areas (for example, storage areas, changing rooms),
  • six investments in beaches and shores of the sea, rivers, lakes, ponds and other water bodies,
  • three investments in public drinking fountains and natural water wells,
  • two investments in other natural heritage valued in tourism.
