Copyright: Slovak government The aim of the investment is to create a research environment able to compete internationally for the best scientists, both in terms of salary competitiveness and appealing schemes to support outstanding researchers at different career stages (e.g. PhD students, postdoctoral researchers and senior researchers). The first call (launched in spring 2022 and supported by a EUR 15 million Recovery and Resilience Facility) aims at supporting researchers whose careers are at risk due to the conflict in Ukraine, by enabling them to continue their work in Slovakia. The support is channelled through the receiving institutions, hosting the researchers. By early 2023, over 150 foreign researchers, mostly from Ukraine, applied for the scheme. The Slovak Academy of Science in Bratislava is among the institutions that host a particularly high number of researchers.
