Slovenian Quantum Communication Infrastructure Demonstration (SiQUID)

The project aims to build architecture and prepare EuroQCI integration, improve security, increase industrialization and autonomy, contribute to deployment and integration, assist in measurements and lessons learned, train young researchers and engineers and grow national expertise. 

The Recovery and Resilience Facility provides funding of EUR 2.0 million.

The SiQUID (Slovenian Quantum Communication Infrastructure Demonstration) project will establish quantum key distribution links between several state nodes in Slovenia and a test quantum network between research institutions in Ljubljana for advanced quantum communication protocols needed for secure communications.

Within the project new quantum communication equipment will be developed, produced and deployed, links between nodes will be established and end users trained.

The basis for a potential next phase with ground connection with neighbouring countries and a ground optical station for satellite connections will be established.

Participating partners are the University of Ljubljana – Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Jožef Stefan Institute, Beyond Semiconductor Ltd. and Government Office for the Protection of Classified Information and Government Office for Information Security.
