Restoration of the Castle of Angers

The restoration of the Castle of Angers is the largest restoration project among the 14 historic monuments renovated thanks to the funding of Recovery and Resilience Facility (EUR 40 million). The restoration of the eight towers and 170 meters of northern ramparts received a grant of EUR 6.5 million for waterproofing works, the replacement of damaged stones, the renovation of the rainwater drainage system among others. The site is exemplary in terms of environmental protection: in collaboration with the League for the Protection of Birds, the restoration team has created refuges for swift birds and bats in order to guarantee them a housing during the works. Renovation is on-going and will be completed by June 2023.
