The environmental restoration project of the Addaia wetland has received a grant of €350,152 from the NextGenerationEU fund, which corresponds to the total cost of the planned actions.
This intervention involves installing boardwalks in areas where water accumulates or floods, facilitating vegetation regeneration by preventing human foot traffic in those areas.
The horse trail has been rerouted to keep the salt pans and wetland always on the north side of the path, providing greater protection for bird habitats.
Additionally, supplementary signage and physical barriers, such as screens or viewpoints, have been installed to separate visitable areas from natural habitats.
The Menorca Biosphere Reserve was declared by UNESCO in 1993 and expanded in 2019.
It currently covers 514,485 hectares, encompassing both terrestrial and marine areas.
It is part of Spain's network of biosphere reserves, consisting of 53 spaces committed to conserving heritage while promoting sustainable economic activities.
