The project concerns the preservation, restoration, and promotion of the complex archaeological site at the northern entrance of Agia Sophia station of the Metropolitan Railway of Thessaloniki, which encompasses various building phases dating from late antiquity to the post-Byzantine period.

This highly significant archaeological site, covering an area of more than 800 square meters, was discovered during the construction of the major public project of the Thessaloniki Metro and was preserved in situ following a redesign of the Agia Sofia station.

The aim of the project is to ensure the protection and authenticity of the monument ensemble while simultaneously offering the public access to a new archaeological site, integrated into the historical urban map of Thessaloniki.

The project has been completed, ensuring accessibility, safety, and the best possible experience for visitors, while also contributing to the cultural development of the city.

Total budget: EUR 600,000
