Remodeling of the Palma II wastewater treatment plant.

The Palma Wastewater Treatment Plant (EDAR) II has been in operation since 1975 and can only treat between 45,000 and 60,000 cubic meters of water per day.

This prevents it from meeting the current purification needs of the area it serves, including part of the city of Palma, the municipalities of Marratxí, Esporles, and Bunyola, as well as adjacent industrial estates.

The intervention will expand the capacity of the Palma EDAR II to 90,000 cubic meters per day, capable of reaching 135,000 cubic meters during peak periods, serving 750,000 inhabitants.

The expansion of the Palma EDAR II will also reduce the average energy consumption of the wastewater treatment system by at least 10% and incorporate specific treatment for the removal of nutrients such as phosphorus and nitrogen.

Additionally, a tertiary treatment process will be implemented to enable the reuse of water for irrigation or municipal use.
