Protection of whistleblowers

The law on protection of whistle-blowers shall:

•  prohibit retaliatory measures against whistle-blowers
•  require establishment of an external notification channel for whistleblowing at the Ministry of Justice
•  require public institutions, large municipalities and large companies to set up internal notification systems for whistle-blowing.

Although there have been repeated attempts to legislate whistleblowing in the Czech Republic, it is only now that comprehensive legislation in this area is coming into force.

The protection of whistleblowers can have major positive social impacts not only in the prevention of corruption and illegal conduct in general, but also in the protection of life, health and the environment.
