Projection of a sustainable tourism in Barcelona

The Barcelona Tourism Sustainability Plan project, with funding of nearly 41 million euros from the NextGenerationEU funds, aims at the tourism sector and the associated economy with an emphasis on economic and environmental sustainability.

The plan will diversify the city's tourist attractions and promote new points of interest in less explored areas to decompress the most visited places.

Sustainability will be integrated as a fundamental element of the tourist offer.

One of the elements of the plan is the preservation of Barcelona's unique identity and support for the local community.

The project also proposes improvements in tourist mobility, a more efficient use of energy in the facilities and the drive towards full sustainability of the sector with innovative initiatives that reinforce Barcelona's position as a unique destination.

In addition, it promotes digitization and strengthens its international leadership in governance, management, sustainability and tourism resilience.
