Pilon Gallery – a 5-star art treasury - Sustainable restoration and revitalisation of cultural heritage and public cultural infrastructure

The project's primary objective is to renovate and modernize the Pilon Gallery in Ajdovščina, aiming to revitalize the space and underscore its significance within the local environment. The envisioned renovations are designed to carefully preserve the gallery's existing structure while integrating modern technology. This strategic approach ensures that, following the renovation, the gallery will not only maintain its cultural heritage but also become more sustainable and accessible to a broader audience.

As part of the revitalization efforts, the gallery will undergo upgrades to align with the latest museum standards, enhancing its overall appeal and cultural offerings. The incorporation of these standards reflects a commitment to providing visitors with a contemporary and enriching cultural experience.

The financial support for this endeavor is facilitated through the Recovery and Resilience Facility, contributing EUR 1.18 million to a project valued at EUR 1.5 million. The Municipality of Ajdovščina is actively involved in this initiative, providing the remaining funds. This collaborative funding approach highlights the shared commitment of both national and local entities to the restoration and enhancement of this culturally significant site.

Recognizing the importance of the project, the Ministry of Culture formalized its support by signing a co-financing contract with the Municipality of Ajdovščina in November 2022. This agreement signifies a coordinated effort to preserve and promote cultural heritage, with the ultimate goal of creating a culturally vibrant and dynamic space within the local community.

The anticipated conclusion of the gallery's renovation is set for October 2025. Beyond the physical restoration, this project represents an investment in the cultural identity of Ajdovščina, emphasizing the enduring importance of cultural sites in fostering community pride, attracting visitors, and contributing to the overall cultural richness of the region.
