Neurotech National Centre – Spain

The centre will have an initial planned investment of EUR 40 billion, financed by the Recovery and Resilience Facility. The Centre is expected to receive EUR 200 million until 2037, of which the Spanish Government will contribute 60 % and the remaining 40 % between the Autonomous University of Madrid and the Community of Madrid.

The headquarters, located in the Zenit building of the Cantoblanco campus of the Autonomous University of Madrid, will have around 200 people between researchers and associated staff, an area of 4.500 square metres and will start its activity in 2023, beginning with the recruitment of managerial staff and the creation of an advisory scientific committee.

The objectives of Spain Neurotech include:

  • Advance understanding of the human brain.
  • Develop diagnostic methods and therapies for diseases of the nervous system.
  • Fostering an innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem.
  • Develop ethical and legal rules necessary for the application of new human-centric technologies, incorporating society into scientific activities. 
  • Attracting talent and forming new generations of leaders in neurotechnology.
