National Reforestation Plan, restoration and prevention (“antiNERO”), antierosion and flood protection measures

This investment aims to restore degraded forest ecosystems in Greece through reforestation and fire prevention measures (AntiNERO programmes) as well as anti-erosion and flood protection works in areas affected by mega fires.

It includes:

• Reforestation studies and their implementation - planting of saplings. 
• Upgrade of four public forest nurseries (Ambrosias, Lagada, Organism and  Aliartos) 
• Fire protection plan studies 
• Forest and woodland clearings 
• Maintenance of the forest road network and existing fire zones 
• Creation of mixed firebreaks, including logging of trees and shrubs, cleaning and pruning works and planting plants.
• Anti-erosion and flood protection actions in the areas of Evros, Rhodope and Parnitha.

Thousands of acres in forest areas and roads have already been cleaned, improved or maintained and many projects are underway.

Upon completion of all projects, it is aimed that there will have been achieved the reforestation of 5,700 ha and the upgrading of 105,500 ha of degraded ecosystems, the completion of 5,000 ha of anti-erosion works and 175,000 m² of flood protection works.
