Museum of Transport and Freight in Senožeče - Sustainable restoration and revitalisation of cultural heritage and public cultural infrastructure

The project aims to finalize the renovation and revitalization of the old customs station buildings and establish a museum within the premises.

Throughout the renovation process, special attention will be given to preserving all autochthonous and historical elements, creating a dedicated space for the envisioned museum. The monument will undergo digitization, paving the way for the development of innovative tourist products designed to attract visitors and encourage extended stays in the region.

Funding for this comprehensive project is facilitated through the Recovery and Resilience Facility, contributing EUR 1.6 million to a project with a total value of EUR 2.1 million. The Municipality of Divača plays a pivotal role in this initiative by providing the remaining funds, emphasizing the collaborative effort between national and local stakeholders to restore and repurpose this cultural landmark.

Formalizing their commitment to this cultural restoration, the Ministry of Culture signed a co-financing contract with the Municipality of Divača in November 2022. This partnership sets the stage for the anticipated completion of the renovation by October 2025.

Beyond the physical restoration, the digitization of the monument represents a forward-looking approach, aligning with modern technologies to enhance the visitor experience. The expected outcome is not only the preservation of cultural heritage but also the creation of a dynamic cultural space that contributes to the region's tourism and reinforces its historical significance. The completion of this project is poised to mark a significant cultural and touristic milestone for the Municipality of Divača.
