School building security and structural rehabilitation plan (Mission 4 – Component 1 - Investment 3.3)

Italy’s Recovery and Resilience Plan contributes to climate recovery also by enhancing school buildings’ safety and energy consumption.

In particular, this measure aims to contribute to the improvement of energy classes and leading to lower consumption and CO2 emissions as well as to increase structural safety of buildings.

Particular attention is paid to the most disadvantaged areas with the aim of tackling and eliminating economic and social imbalances.

The investment is financed by Italy’s Recovery and Resilience plan by EUR 4.4 billion.

The project consisting in structural interventions is part of this investment.

The Giordano Bruno Institute of Higher Education is located in the north-western sector of the Municipality of Turin, on the orographic left of the river Po, bordered by:

Corso Vercelli in the south, Via Marinuzzi to the East and the railway section Torino Rebaudengo Fossata - Torino Stura to the North.

The educational institution which has been the subject of intervention was established in the eighties of the last century, and more precisely between 1986 and 1988, and is home to a high school for linguistic and applied sciences.

In the school year 2021-2022 the school housed about 50 classes for a number of pupils of just under 1,100 units.

The building consists of two buildings: classrooms and gym connected by a tunnel on the ground floor.

The classrooms have a rectangular base of 103 m x 17.60 m.

The height is 16 m and is spread over four levels: a first basement level and three levels above ground.

The gym instead develops on a single floor apart from the bleachers for spectators that are located above the service rooms (changing rooms, toilets, infirmary and storage).

This project of extraordinary maintenance and regulatory adaptation of a building component such as the exterior fixtures, provides for the replacement of a part of the existing windows in the classrooms where the teaching activity takes place.
