Copyright: Città metropolitana di Torino School building security and structural rehabilitation plan (Mission 4 – Component 1 - Investment 3.3)Italy’s Recovery and Resilience Plan contributes to climate recovery also by enhancing school buildings’ safety and energy consumption. In particular, this measure aims to contribute to the improvement of energy classes and leading to lower consumption and CO2 emissions as well as to increase structural safety of buildings.Particular attention is paid to the most disadvantaged areas with the aim of tackling and eliminating economic and social imbalances. The investment is financed by Italy’s Recovery and Resilience plan by EUR 4.4 billion. The project is part of this investment. The Marie Curie school complex stands on a lot with access from Via dei Rochis no. 12 in the Pinerolo school district. The school gymnasium block, which is the object of intervention, constitutes an autonomous structural unit, subject to seismic vulnerability analysis, which has highlighted some weaknesses in the beam-pillar nodes and the risk of overturning of the external walls. The Metropolitan City of Turin therefore plans to carry out three macro-categories of intervention: structural, energy and architectural.Interventions on structural and non-structural elements: consolidation of the reinforced concrete pillars with metal calastrades; realisation of a new metal carpentry horizon with bracing; application of an anti-liftoverturning system for the external walls; strengthening of the load-bearing roofing system, with connection by means of plates and metal carpentry profiles; installation of anti-deflection protection.Energy improvement works on the opaque envelope: insulation of the extrados of the attic floor with a rock wool panel system; complete replacement of the external window and door frames and internal bathroom doors; replacement of the lighting fixtures in the changing rooms and services block of the gymnasium with high-efficiency, low-consumption lamps.Architectural works: adaptation of accessibility to the gymnasium on the basement floor with installation of stairlifts; overall renovation of the changing rooms and services block; construction of a new internal bar on the mezzanine floor, in the current atrium area.Top 100 recipients:CITTÀ METROPOLITANA DI TORINO Copyright: Città metropolitana di Torino ReferenceM4C1Project locations Italy EU contribution€4 400 000 000
