School building security and structural rehabilitation plan (Mission 4 – Component 1 - Investment 3.3)

Italy’s Recovery and Resilience Plan contributes to climate recovery also by enhancing school buildings’ safety and energy consumption.

In particular, this measure aims to contribute to the improvement of energy classes and leading to lower consumption and CO2 emissions as well as to increase structural safety of buildings.

Particular attention is paid to the most disadvantaged areas with the aim of tackling and eliminating economic and social imbalances.

The investment is financed by Italy’s Recovery and Resilience plan by EUR 4.4 billion.

The project consisting in structural interventions is part of this investment.

It is about regulatory and seismic adjustment, energy improvement and extraordinary maintenance at the institute "I.T.I.S. ETTORE MAJORANA, GRUGLIASCO VIA BARACCA, 76/86", consisting of nine structurally separated factory bodies and autonomous behavior.

The intervention foresees for the seismic adjustment: the control of the current metal elements of connection between the elements constituting the structure of the school building; the insertion of new metal connections of connection; the creation of new bracings, in order to absorb the seismic forces to them; the connections to the basement of the foundations; the adjustment of the expansion joints between the original building and the extension and between the building and the external stairs.

The objective is to make the facilities able to meet at least 80% of the safety level imposed by current legislation, against the state limit of life protection (SLV).

It is also planned to renovate the rooms used for toilets, in the face of the invasiveness of seismic adjustments.
