School building security and structural rehabilitation plan (Mission 4 – Component 1 - Investment 3.3)

Italy’s Recovery and Resilience Plan contributes to climate recovery also by enhancing school buildings’ safety and energy consumption.

In particular, this measure aims to contribute to the improvement of energy classes and leading to lower consumption and CO2 emissions as well as to increase structural safety of buildings.

Particular attention is paid to the most disadvantaged areas with the aim of tackling and eliminating economic and social imbalances.

The investment is financed by Italy’s Recovery and Resilience plan by EUR 4.4 billion.

The project consisting in structural interventions is part of this investment.

The project consisted of a regulatory adjustment of the external frames and extraordinary maintenance work to be carried out at the Higher Education Institute "E. Rotterdam" located in Nichelino, Via XXV Aprile n. 139.

The works envisaged in this contract concern the replacement of transparent closures that will be concentrated in the classrooms, for the regulatory adaptation and the improvement of the thermal dispersion of the building.

Specifically there will be the replacement of the windows as follows:

Basement floor: 13 windows on the west elevation and 2 emergency exits, showing on the south and north elevation.

Mezzanine floor: 5 windows on the west elevation, 5 windows on the east elevation and 3 emergency exits, 1 on the South and 2 on the North.

First floor: 1 window on the West side, 24 windows on the East side, 2 emergency exits, one on the South side and one on the North side.

Second floor: 17 windows on the West side, 24 windows on the East side, 2 emergency exits showing one on the South elevation and one on the North elevation.

Simultaneously with the replacement of the windows will be removed the external screens where still present and inside the thickness of the glass stopper of the new windows will be inserted aluminum blinds to perform the action of solar screen.

The new emergency exit doors will be equipped with panic bar, door closer, porthole and anti-theft connection.

The shutters on the second floor will be removed, an insulating panel in glass wool will be inserted inside the existing bins and the closing compartment of the box will be replaced.

Concurrently with the change of the windows will be carried out a timely activity of revision of some frames already replaced in previous contracts.
