School building security and structural rehabilitation plan (Mission 4 – Component 1 - Investment 3.3)

Italy’s Recovery and Resilience Plan contributes to climate recovery also by enhancing school buildings’ safety and energy consumption.

In particular, this measure aims to contribute to the improvement of energy classes and leading to lower consumption and CO2 emissions as well as to increase structural safety of buildings.

Particular attention is paid to the most disadvantaged areas with the aim of tackling and eliminating economic and social imbalances.

The investment is financed by Italy’s Recovery and Resilience plan by EUR 4.4 billion.

The project consisting in structural interventions is part of this investment.

The "Carlo Grassi" Institute was founded in 1974 to meet the needs of a territorial reality characterized by the remarkable development of the engineering industry and reaches its maximum expansion in the eighties.

The only state institute in the province of Turin to offer young people the chance to obtain a diploma in "Aeronautical Construction", in 1996 it established the specialization in "Electrical Engineering and Automation" expanding its direct training offer to an innovative industrial sector, present in the Turin area.

The technical institute "C. Grassi" of via Paolo Veronese n. 305 is located in the northern sector of the Municipality of Turin and is bordered by Via Paolo Veronese to the north, Via Lanzo to the west, Via Ettore Stampini to the east and South is bordered by the Garden of Via Lanzo.

The buildings are large and occupy the entire block, therefore the choice of building recovery and seismic adjustment has focused on the body of factory n. 2 of the institute, the main one, which houses the classrooms and the educational laboratories and the administrative offices.

The interventions will concern in particular the seismic adjustment of the body indicated and the energy efficiency with the replacement of all the windows present, rei doors and remaking of the external security stairs in addition to the removal of asbestos cover.
