School building security and structural rehabilitation plan (Mission 4 – Component 1 - Investment 3.3)

Italy’s Recovery and Resilience Plan contributes to climate recovery also by enhancing school buildings’ safety and energy consumption.

In particular, this measure aims to contribute to the improvement of energy classes and leading to lower consumption and CO2 emissions as well as to increase structural safety of buildings.

Particular attention is paid to the most disadvantaged areas with the aim of tackling and eliminating economic and social imbalances.

The investment is financed by Italy’s Recovery and Resilience plan by EUR 4.4 billion.

The project consisting in structural interventions is part of this investment.

The school complex I.I.S. "United Europe" is located in Chivasso in the block bordered by Via Orti, Via Marconi with main entrance to n. 6, the municipal sports field and a second school complex of municipal competence, bordering the institute.

The building was commissioned by the Province of Turin in the early 70’s and consists of a complex plan and is divided into 6 structural units.

The iron windows have been replaced with electro-colored aluminum windows part with glazing fixed and partly with opening potty glass with motorized opening, thermal break equipped with glass-chamber with argon gas.

Inside the room "Officine" has been realized a raised floor made with a modular system, laid directly on the existing floor.

Following the removal of the current glass walls-metal have been realized all the internal partitions corridor-classrooms and classroom-classroom.

The partition between classroom and classroom and between classroom and corridor is a lightweight partition on metal frame, 75 mm thick.

These are partitions with high insulating power.

They were also equipped with cladding to coat all the external masonry, for energy saving.

On the second floor of the building classrooms was laid an electro-welded galvanized anti-melting mesh diameter 1.8 mm., mesh 25.4 x 25.4 mm.

Finally, throughout the local Officine has realized a suspended ceiling with 600 600 panels in mineral fiber biosoluble.
