School building security and structural rehabilitation plan (Mission 4 – Component 1 - Investment 3.3)

Italy’s Recovery and Resilience Plan contributes to climate recovery also by enhancing school buildings’ safety and energy consumption.

In particular, this measure aims to contribute to the improvement of energy classes and leading to lower consumption and CO2 emissions as well as to increase structural safety of buildings.

Particular attention is paid to the most disadvantaged areas with the aim of tackling and eliminating economic and social imbalances.

The investment is financed by Italy’s Recovery and Resilience plan by EUR 4.4 billion.

The project is part of this investment.

The complex, dating back to the early '80s, owned by the City of Turin, was transferred for free use to the Province of Turin following the L.

23/96 which placed in charge of the Province (now Metropolitan City) the burden of ordinary and extraordinary maintenance and the costs associated with the necessary restructuring, expansion and adaptation to current regulations.

The building is home to a professional institute for hotel and catering services and is divided into several buildings connected to each other, each with specific functional purpose.

It is inserted in a large green area accessible to work vehicles from the driveways located on Via Tirreno, Via Gorizia and Via Ada Negri.

The intervention will concern the bodies of the factory called: BLOCK A, six floors above ground and a basement and which houses mainly the classrooms; BLOCK B, of a single floor above ground and which houses the spaces dedicated to sports activities, placed on a floor crawlspace; BLOCK C2, facing west and delimiting part of the internal courtyard that houses a large conference room, as well as a large mezzanine floor; BLOCK C3, facing south and delimiting part of the internal courtyard, hosting the offices and laboratories.

The interventions include: the replacement of the elevator block; the replacement of the wooden windows; the safety against melting of some floors; the replacement of lighting fixtures.
