Increasing railway infrastructure capacity

The investments promotes rail transport and connectivity with urban centres. It improves accessibility of railway stations to a wider population, including people with disabilities.

The selected projects shall improve the transport service, both for passenger and freight transport:

A. Through the upgrading of major railway stations on the regional network:

  • Ljubljana,
  • Grosuplje,
  • Domžale and
  • Nova Gorica.

B. Through the upgrading of a part of the (both routes currently do not meet existing traffic volumes and are important for cross-border freight transport.):

  • Ljubljana – Divača railway line and
  • Ljubljana – Jesenice railway line

C. Through the upgrading of a part of the (routes damaged in the 2023 summer storms and floods):

  • Jesenice - Sežana regional railway line and
  • Maribor - Prevalje - state border railway line.

The Recovery and Resilience Facility provides funding of EUR 688.6 million.
