Improving the legal and institutional framework for fighting corruption

The objective of the reform is to achieve greater coherence in the fight against corruption by implementing the national horizontal action plan against corruption.
The reform consists of:
(i) legislation to protect whistle-blowers, to enhance transparency in
public decision-making processes and to prevent conflict of interest,
(ii) establishment and operation of an independent authority against corruption, which shall coordinate the efforts of all bodies engaged in the fight against and prevention of corruption and shall supervise the timely implementation of actions by the different competent services
(iii) anti-corruption public awareness and trainings and
(iv) reinforcement of the Internal Audit Units in all the Ministries and the Internal Audit Service.
The Law for the establishment of the Independent Authority Against Corruption was published in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Cyprus on March 4, 2022. The Commissioner and Members of the Independent Authority against Corruption were appointed on July 8, 2022. The Independent Authority in operation. The RRF funding for the establishment of the Authority is EUR 4,51 million.
The Law for transparency in decision-making and related matters was published in the Official Gazette of the Republic in March 2022.
The Law for protecting whistle-blowers was published in the Official Gazette of the Republic in February 2022.
