Flagship projects for research and innovation in the context of the National Hydrogen Strategy - H2Giga - Siemens Energy Global GmbH & Co. KG

The research projects under the flagship initiatives H2Giga, TransHyDE and H2Mare contribute to Germany's National Hydrogen Strategy.

The three initiatives focus on complementary aspects of hydrogen usage to ensure a competitive and climate-neutral economy by overcoming present economic and technological barriers.

The close collaboration of stakeholders from science and industry allow for the transfer and practicability of results.

TransHyDE, in particular, focusses on the transport of green hydrogen, starting from its import to Germany from wind- and solar-intensive countries, up to its distribution within Germany to the end user.

To this end, projects under this initiative assess different technologies of transportation and forms of storage, such as gaseous hydrogen in pipelines and high-pressure containers, ammonia-bound or using liquid organic hydrogen carriers (LOHCs).

The flagship initiative TransHyDE encompasses eleven projects with more than 100 direct and associated partners.

EUR 146 million have been granted by the Federal Ministry for Education and Research.

Next to technological solutions, TransHyDE will put forward insights on regulatory measures to facilitate a fast take-up of hydrogen.

The measure will be completed by August 2026.
