FARI is an independent, not-for-profit Artificial Intelligence initiative led by the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB) and coordinated by Paradigm and Innoviris. FARI is an initiative that aims to develop, study and foster the adoption and governance of AI, Data and Robotics technologies in a trustable, transparent, open, inclusive, ethical and responsible way.

As part of the EUR 9.91 million budget provided by the RRF, in 2022 FARI completed 4 pilot projects with AI in order to foster administrative simplification, animal welfare and employment, and to develop an AI strategy for Brussels.

FARI has established an AI test and experiment centre that enables researchers to interact directly with companies, users and citizens (for example, as part of the digital twin project). Centrally located, it houses research projects, numerous events, an AI Academy for training local and public stakeholders, and experimentation facilities, such as an immersive room.

With its Strategy, it is expected to contribute to the digital transition of the region, to better address the societal challenges it faces by building bridges between universities, the industry, policies and the citizens.
