The objective of the investment is to support the economy in rural, mountainous and remote areas, by developing the offer of activities to visitors. It aims at enhancing the diversification of the tourism sector, creating jobs, reducing out-migration.The investment consists of (i) the completion of the 2km long Aphrodite Route, which shall connect historical, religious and environmental points of the area (for example nature trails) and complements the “Authentic Experience Route” project , and (ii) grant support to enterprises and local community boards for limited-scale restoration of buildings, including repurposing them to host micro and small businesses in the creative and manufacturing sectors and improving the infrastructure and overall visual aesthetic. Specifically, the project Aphrodite Route was completed in October 2023 and the inauguration event took place on 20 January 2024.
