The objective of the investment is to increase the energy efficiency of district heating systems.

The 2017 assessment concluded that only around two thirds of district heating and cooling systems are considered to be energy efficient.

The objective of the investment is to increase the energy efficiency of the three district heating systems. The funds for the implementation of the investment were awarded through an open call for project selection. The tender excluded the use of biomass in breach of the requirements of Directive (EU) 2018/2001.

EUR 13.5 million of the Recovery and Resilience Facility is foreseen for this purpose.

The investment is under implementation and is expected to be completed by the end of June 2026.
