The guiding principle of the centres of excellence for digital and digitally supported teaching is close collaboration between science and stakeholders in teacher training and education. Modern schools need teachers with the best digital skills. This is where the centres of excellence come in, launched under the leadership of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and in cooperation with the Länder. Until 2026, funding will be provided for research and the development of digitalization-related advanced training courses for teachers as well as the establishment and expansion of networks among stakeholders. The measure comprises four thematic centres of excellence and a science-led networking and transfer project. The latter supports the centres of excellence in promoting wide use of the results in advanced training for teachers and in raising public awareness of the topic of digitally supported teaching.
