The aim of this investment is to provide reliable information on the transport system in order to improve the acquisition and exchange of traffic data on the state of transport infrastructure and the real-time movement of vehicles.

The investment shall ensure better interoperability of management systems, thus making traffic management more efficient and improving safety by digitising road transport. A centralised traffic control system with advanced technological infrastructure for data visualisation and a digital road map of Slovenia shall be put in place.

The information from this system shall be made available to all road traffic control centres. The aim of the system is to coordinate and improve traffic flow and improve traffic conditions in Slovenia.

Digitalisation of 70 kilometres of road: the investment shall comprise, the upgrading of the fibre network and the purchase of road detectors for real-time collection of traffic data, including a road safety simulation tool, and an application tool for users.

By allowing real-time adjustments of travel speed limits, the traffic manager aims to be able to prevent accidents and congestions, as well as to reduce emissions. The investment shall be implemented by the Motorway Company in Slovenia, which is entrusted with the legal monopoly for the construction and operation of motorways and partly by the Infrastructure Directorate, which is responsible for the management and control of traffic on national roads.

The Recovery and Resilience Facility contributes EUR 12.5 million to the investment worth EUR 20.3 million in total. The project activities started in February 2020 and should be finalised by March 2026.
