The investment aims to increase the supply of social housing for vulnerable groups, also as part of a deinstitutionalisation strategy.

The investment supports the construction and energy-efficient renovation of at least 1212 low-rent housing units and of inclusive and solidarity-based housing, as well as of accommodations for poorly-housed groups. Another part of the measure consists in equipping at least 5000 homes for the elderly and people with disabilities with remote assistance boxes to enable them to live at home as long as possible, to delay or avoid their admission to an institution or to avoid or shorten their stay in a hospital.

The Recovery and Resilience Facility provides EUR 140 million of funding.

The deinstitutionalisation strategy for long-term care, which constituted a prerequisite for carrying out the investment, was approved by the Walloon region in October 2021. The award of contracts for the works on 280 low-rent housing units is expected to be completed soon. The works are expected to be completed by Q3 2026.
