The goal of the project was to develop a technical solution for the manual identification of consumer textile types (NIRwaveBox) and thereby contribute to solving the problem of textile production, use and recycling.

The project enabled: the verification of the quality of the material at the level of production, procurement, end-user (optimisation of logistics); optimal choice of washing programme (optimisation of energy and water consumption, increase in the life of clothing, prevention of abrasion, etc.); appropriate separation of clothes (according to material composition) for recycling purposes.

The project developed a miniature prototype of a manual textile type identifier.

The specific project activities included:

1. Developing a prototype of a manual textile recognition detector.
2. Developping an application to display detection results of textile type recognition on a mobile phone
3. More than 97 % textile type recognition performance.
4. Enabling the remote upgrade of NIRwaveBox.

The Recovery and Resilience Facility provided funding of EUR 90,000, while the total value of the investment was EUR 160,000. The project started in September 2023 and was finalised in March 2024.
