The reform will increase the use of alternative fuels in Slovenia while reducing greenhouse gas emissions and pollutants from transportation.
To achieve this, the government has proposed the Act on Alternative Fuels in Transport which aims to establish a dense and user-friendly public network of charging and supply infrastructure for alternative fuels in transportation that is interoperable, secure, and easily accessible.
The Act includes plans to set up a network of high-power electric charging stations along the TNT network and in urban hubs, as well as to establish hydrogen refuelling points. In line with the Act, Slovenia is expected to have at least 400 new registered charging or supply points for alternative electric vehicles built by end of 2025.
The draft Act was prepared by the Ministry of Infrastructure and underwent public consultation from September to October 2022. The Act on Alternative Fuels in Transport was approved by the government and proposed to the National Assembly for adoption in February 2023. It passed the first reading in the National Assembly in April 2023.
